This webinar will explore person-centered strategies for engaging clients who are ambivalent about treatment, reluctant to change their substance use patterns, or experience a recurrence of use. Drawing from recent guidance by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), as well as best practices in harm reduction and substance use disorder treatment, presenters will discuss how behavioral health systems can evolve to improve treatment access and retention. Topics will include strategies for reducing barriers to care, addressing recurrences of use as part of the recovery process rather than a cause for discharge, and fostering a treatment environment that prioritizes engagement, safety, and client autonomy.
